St Mary’s hold upperhand in replay
St Mary’s made no mistake at the second time of asking when romping to a seven point win over Waterville Frank Casey’s in Saturday’s South Kerry SFC final replay at Con Keating Park, Cahersiveen.
Led superbly by captain Bryan Sheehan, Sean Cournane and Denis Daly, the hosts always held the upperhand against opponents who managed just two scores from play over the hour.
The game swung on a key point for St Mary’s before half-time when Paul O’Donoghue intercepted a poorly taken Waterville sideline ball to fire his side into a 0-6 to 0-4 half-time lead.
The hosts grew as the second-half went on to really emphasise their dominance overall.
The victors ended the game with 14 men with substitute Kieran O’Driscoll sent off soon after his introduction as a mini-scuffle broke out prior to the full-time whistle.
Saturday’s success was St Marys’ 30th Jack Murphy Cup in total and their first since 2011.
