Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for three counties with strong winds expected on Friday.

The warning for Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow will be in place from 11am on Friday until 5pm that evening. The "strong and gusty southeasterly winds" are set to bring difficult travelling conditions and lead to loose objects or debris being displaced.

More generally, the forecaster said Thursday will be "dry and bright for many" with sunny spells and isolated showers. Cloud will increase from the west through the evening, with "scattered showers gradually spreading eastwards, turning heavy at times with a chance of hail".

Thursday night will be mostly clear, but it will be cold, with temperatures falling to lows of 1C to 6C.

A wet and blustery day is expected on Friday, with rain becoming "widespread and turning heavy at times".

Exposed coasts are also set to see strong and gusty winds, with gales at times. Scattered showers and some brighter spells should dominate the afternoon and evening, with some showers turning heavy.

It will stay cloudy on Friday night, with more scattered showers or longer spells of rain, with temperatures sitting between 5C to 9C.

Saturday will be breezy with some scattered showers and limited sunny spells in the morning. The showers will then ease for more sunny spells later in the afternoon with highs of 9C to 11C.

Clear spells will give way to cloud building from the southwest early on Saturday night with rain spreading nationwide. Temperatures will be around 5C to 9C.

Sunday will start with more outbreaks of rain and drizzle before it clears to give a dry sunny afternoon. Daytime temperatures will stay between 10C to 13C with some moderate winds.
