The indications were the 60-year-old would continue in the position and he is set to be again assisted by Mick Dempsey, James McGarry and Derek Lyng.

The James Stephens man will be aiming for an 11th All-Ireland title although it remains to be seen whether he will again be joined by Henry Shefflin, who has featured for the Cats since he was first appointed for the 1999 season.

lFintan O’Connor has joined Derek McGrath’s Waterford hurling backroom team for 2015. His appointment as selector was ratified at last night’s county board meeting in Dungarvan.

O’Connor currently trains the Cappoquin intermediate side that reached their first ever Munster final last weekend after a stunning comeback against Feakle. He also guided Fourmilewater to a county senior semi final in 2012 and has been involved with Blackwater Community School in the Harty Cup.

Fergal O’Brien will come on board as physical trainer.

Tom McGlinchey’s appointment as Waterford senior football manager was also confirmed at last night’s gathering.
