Walsh admits his goal was ‘a fluke’
The 41st minute score saw the Kerry forward lob Austin Stacks’ goalkeeper Darragh O’Brien to draw the game after Mid Kerry had trailed by four points at the start of the second-half.
“He (O’Brien) took a few steps out and I caught him, but I mishit it and it dipped in over his head. I mishit it. A point would have been a good score at the time.
“That’s what I was going for — he took a few steps out and he probably won’t be doing it the next time but it was a mishit.”
The Cromane man said Mid Kerry’s efforts around the middle in the opening 30 minutes were disappointing.
“We are disgusted with our performance in the first-half. Breaking ball around the middle has been our strength all year but they totally dominated that in the first-half. We resurrected that in the second- half but not enough.”
Walsh is taking heart from the battle having gone through a championship where they were previously untested.
“All divisional teams they seem to get better as the year goes on and the more games we play and train. The last few weeks we’ve had no distractions from club things at all so hopefully we will learn from it.
“Stacks I know will be disappointed coming off the field. They will feel they threw it away, they had a four-point lead with a big wind but it was probably too much of a swirling wind to be that much of an advantage.
“We are delighted. With every game we have improved this year and that will be no different we’ll get another two training sessions and a game the weekend.”
