Creedon to extend stay with Tipp

Peter Creedon is expected to extend his reign as Tipperary football manager into 2015.

Creedon to extend stay with Tipp

Creedon’s two-year term ended following the county’s qualifier defeat by Galway in July and the manager sat down with top brass recently to discuss plans for next year.

There were concerns over Creedon’s future when the Tipperary boss hinted in the wake of their championship exit that the demands on inter-county managers could force him to hand back the bainisteoir’s bib.

“I have a busy life and other factors outside of that as well have to be given consideration,” said Creedon, who is principal at St Aidan’s primary school, Enniscorthy.

“It is nearly gone to the stage now as an inter-county manager that you have to be either retired or at it full-time. Maybe the players deserve a person that might be able to give it more time as well.”

Board officials were keen for Creedon to remain at the helm following a most progressive 2014 campaign. A return to Division 3 of the league was topped with victory over Clare in the Division 4 final, while the county’s 11-year run without a single Munster championship win was ended when the scalp of Limerick was taken back in May.

Cork were run close in the subsequent Munster semi-final, a solid qualifier run put together thereafter with wins over Longford and Laois.

It is believed there will be no change to Creedon’s backroom team of Michael McGeehin, Michael O’Loughlin and Tommy Twomey.
