Jim Power Cup: An utterly dominant and powerful Cork East outfit ran out convincing winners of the U-14 Jim Power Cup at Fraher Field on Saturday.

East Cork power home

They overwhelmed Kerry North in the decider by shooting 2-4 within ten minutes of the throw-in. Sharp corner forward Cathal Harrington snapped up those two early goals and then supplied the pass for Mark Cronin to smash a tremendous third to the far corner. The Rebel force, wearing all white, held an unassailable thirteen point lead at half-time (3-5 to 0-1).

Kerry North took 14 minutes to open their account. Mark Keane and Conor McMahon added further goals as Cork East coasted through the second period and comfortably won by 5-8 to 0-3. On a busy day of games at venues around the Dungarvan area, they caught the eye from the outset by posting big totals during the group stages. They easily disposed of Limerick and Tipperary in a statement of intent.

In the Plate final, a skilful Kerry South side packed too much for a plucky Limerick. A goal from Barry Keane helped them establish a 1-5 to 0-1 half time advantage. Limerick mounted a spirited recovery effort during the second half but Ian Corkery and Dylan O’Connor netted for the Kingdom as they eased home with eight points to spare (3-6 to 0-7).

Nine teams participated from the six Munster counties in the competition run by Waterford Bord na nÓg. Cork, Kerry and Tipperary fielded two teams each.
