Rossies facing anxious wait on Shine injury

Roscommon were last night anxiously awaiting the results of a scan to find out if forward Donie Shine faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Rossies facing anxious wait on Shine injury

Shine was stretchered off the field after 54 minutes of their Connacht championship semi-final defeat to Mayo after he landed awkwardly when challenging for a high ball.

The Clann na nGael sharp-shooter was in obvious agony and received extensive treatment on the field before his substitution at Hyde Park.

Rossies manager John Evans says they are all hoping for positive news after Shine underwent a scan yesterday to discover the seriousness of the injury.

“Donie has his scan this evening and we’ll see what the story is then,” said Evans.

“It’s in the knee region anyway, but it may not necessarily be that either. It’s affecting his calf too, but it’s in that region.

“I’d hate to comment at all until such time as we see what the scan says. You are just guessing, that’s all we are doing, but we’ll have more news tomorrow hopefully,” he said.

With just five weeks to go before Roscommon face a Round 1B winner in the second round of the qualifiers, Evans is keeping his fingers crossed for a quick recovery from his star man.

“He has been injured before so we’d be hopeful that it isn’t too bad,” said Evans. “He is a very dedicated guy and he’ll make a quick recovery one way or another,” he said.
