Cork minor footballers unchanged for semi-final clash with Waterford
Donal O’Sullivan’s side recorded an easy 6-15 to 1-7 win at home to Limerick in their first outing and the management have unsurprisingly given a vote of confidence to the same 15.
Castlehaven’s Michael Hurley, the younger brother of senior star Brian, scored 2-4 in that 23-point victory over the Shannonsiders and he is one of four players to have played in the county SFC at the weekend.
He scored a goal in the reigning champions’ easy win over St Vincent’s while captain and full-back Kevin Flahive appeared for Douglas as they beat Newcestown. In addition, Tom Bushe featured in Ilen Rovers’ defeat to Bishopstown and his fellow wing-back Cian Kiely impressed as Ballincollig defeated St Finbarr’s.
Meanwhile, All Star forward Conor McManus has been ruled out of Monaghan’s championship campaign until July at the earliest, with initial test results on his ankle and knee suggesting he will be unable to train for six to eight weeks.
And there was further bad news for the Ulster champions last night, with manager Malachy O’Rourke confirming Kieran Hughes and Paudie McKenna both sustained broken bones in their hands in club matches in recent days, leaving them extremely doubtful for the provincial quarter-final tie against Tyrone or Down on June 15.
With Owen Lennon and Gavin Doogan also struggling to be fit in time, O’Rourke was left counting the cost of a bruising Bank Holiday weekend of club action.
