Referees discuss colour of Canning card

Inter-county referees met in Croke Park last night ahead of the start of this weekend’s Allianz Hurling League.

It is understood a number of incidents were brought to the attention of officials, including James McGrath’s decision not to send off Joe Canning in last Saturday’s All-Ireland club semi-final between Portumna and Na Piarsaigh in Thurles.

Canning, who admitted his altercation with David Dempsey was out of character, was shown a yellow card for the 21st minute foul in Thurles.
