The students controlled the opening 10 minutes, at the end of which they led 1-3 to 0-1, with Ross Bergin firing home their goal from close range. The home side could only managing two first-half points through Ciarán Lyng, which left them trailing 1-5 to 0-2.

UCD continued to control matters on the resumption and, with Conor Downey kicking over three points, followed by a 53rd minute Liam Connerton goal, they moved 2-8 to 0-3 clear.
