Wexford boss to observe guidelines

Newly appointed Wexford minor hurling boss Larry Coleman says he will adhere to the training guidelines broken by predecessor Eddie Walsh booted out before Christmas.

The Wexford County Board had told Walsh to refrain from collective training until the end of January, but when it emerged a session had taken place 24 hours before the Combined Colleges were due to play a challenge game, the manager was shown the door.

Coleman, who guided St Martin’s to a senior football title back in October, has vowed not to interfere with the colleges set-up.

“I am not sure what the rule is with regard to training, but I know the colleges are doing powerful work,” he said.

“There are a couple of lads from my own club St Martin’s in with the colleges and they are really going well. The lads are razor sharp and fit, even for this time of year.

“The previous manager had a panel in place and I will be using that as a starting base. Obviously I will be on the hunt for new talent, every management group will have their own take on different players. I don’t have a backroom team in place, but I hope to have all that finalised sometime next week.”
