Dolan appeal heads for HQ

St Brigid’s will argue against Frankie Dolan’s 48-week ban at Croke Park after their appeal to reduce the length of the suspension was rejected by the Connacht Council.

Dolan appeal heads for HQ

The former Roscommon star, who kicked the club’s winning point in last March’s All-Ireland final, was handed the punishment following an incident involving fourth official John Gilmartin after their defeat to Castlebar Mitchels in November’s Connacht final in Dr Hyde Park.

“The club [St Brigid’s] are very disappointed that the Connacht Council wouldn’t agree to reduce the suspension on Frankie,” said coach Liam McHale. “And it looks like the club officers will decide to bring the case to Croke Park. Frankie Dolan is now 34 and it would be very difficult to see him coming back to football if he is ruled out of the game for a year. It’s the length of the suspension, rather than the fact that a suspension has been imposed, that’s the major bone of contention with the club.”

McHale revealed veteran goalkeeper Shane Curran and experienced midfielder Karl Mannion have decided to play on for at least another year, with only midfielder Mark O’Carroll opting out.
