Davy Fitz: ‘Setbacks have hardened me and made me more focused’

Clare hurlers’ philosophy of going the extra mile on the pitch is the driving force behind their promise to visit every school in the county within seven weeks.

But, unlike other All-Ireland winners in previous years in other counties, Davy Fitzgerald wants to make sure the youngsters are given a positive message they can take with them for the rest of their lives. So much so that the squad gave printed leaflets for the school children with a series of messages they can take with them for the rest of their lives.

“One thing we were determined to do was share this with the county. We’ve done all the clubs, now we’re starting with the schools. We started last week and our aim is to get to every school in the next seven weeks,” he said on Clare FM yesterday.
