Ardscoil’s big finish sees them through

As expected, Limerick’s Ardscoil Rís booked their spot in the Dr Harty Cup quarter-finals as they saw off St Flannan’s, Ennis on a 2-24 to 1-10 scoreline at Sixmilebridge yesterday.

An unanswered 11 points in the game’s closing stages ensured that Ardscoil, the 2010 and ’11 winners of the competition, went into the last eight with just one dropped point from four Group 3 games, but Flannan’s — the Harty’s record winners — made them battle for it.

Eoin Hanrahan’s goal for the Ennis side tied the game at 1-6 each in the first half, Colin Crehan having scored Ardscoil’s goal, but Charles McCarthy raised another green flag for them as they led 2-9 to 1-6 at half-time.

Barry Fitzpatrick and Jack English excelled in defence for Ardscoil, while Ronan Lynch, Ian Galvin and Alex Morey were all among the scores.

In the other game in that group, De La Salle kept their qualification hopes alive with a 2-10 to 1-11 win against St Colman’s at Fraher Field.

Peter Hogan got both of the Waterford side’s goals while Shane Ryan accounted for the bulk of their points.

Pádraig Hannon scored the goal for Colman’s, forced to take the field without dual Cork minor Kevin O’Neill, while Ronan Fenton scored a number of points.

In Group 2, Midleton’s section, St Francis College, Rochestown got their first win as they beat St Joseph’s CBS, Nenagh by 4-7 to 1-10.

Mark O’Connor scored two of Rochestown’s goals, Paddy Lynch and Shane Kingston getting one each. O’Connor also converted five frees, with Niall Cashman and David O’Connor also impressed.
