Curry set up Tourlestrane semi

Defending champions Curry have been paired with their south Sligo rivals Tourlestrane in a potentially epic Sligo SFC semi-final — a repeat of last year’s last four encounter — with surprise packet St Molaise Gaels to face Tubbercurry, the championship record holders, in the other semi-final.

The last four draw capped a thrilling quarter-final weekend as title favourites Tourlestrane lived on the edge yesterday when surviving a Coolera-Strandhill comeback to win 1-11 to 1-9 at Tubbercurry.

Champions Curry, who welcomed back a trio of last year’s title-winners, saw one of these stars, Ciaran Brennan, score five points in the convincing 1-15 to 1-5 defeat of Geevagh at Bunnanadden on Saturday.

Brennan, later sent off following two bookings, was eclipsed by the powerful first-half display of midfielder Sean Davey, as the holders led 0-10 to 0-2 at the interval.

Also on Saturday, Eoin McHugh bagged seven points, including an added-time winner, as north Sligo’s St Molaise Gaels stunned St Mary’s — last year’s finalists — in a tight 0-13 to 0-12 outcome at Markievicz Park.

Johnny Davey’s late free for St Mary’s fell short in the contest’s last play.
