Terry Hyland could have zeroed in on Cavan’s second-half performance, he could have pushed the positives of a season that delivered a first spot in the All-Ireland series since 1997, but he didn’t.

When it was put to the Cavan manager that maybe his team had spurned the opportunity of accomplishing something sensational against a strangely out-of-sorts Kerry side he held his hand up and admitted caution had cost them.
