Kerry may turn to Griffin

Kerry will pitch untried full-back Mark Griffin into their full-back selection mix for the Munster final after veteran defender Aidan O’Mahony was ruled out yesterday with a dislocated elbow.

O’Mahony will see a consultant this week to establish the extent of the injury, suffered in a final trial game in Killarney on Saturday. The elbow was reduced — or put back in place — in Kerry General Hospital on Saturday night, but the Rathmore man may be out of action for six weeks, which would also rule him out of an All-Ireland quarter-final if Kerry make it to Croke Park.

Kingdom selectors must now decide whether to juggle their full-back line or draft in Griffin, from St Michael’s Foilmore, as a direct replacement for O’Mahony.

The 2012 Kerry U21 has impressed in training and has already shown his value in this year’s Allianz Football League against Tyrone, Cork and as a sub against Down.
