Aston Villa maintained their 100 per cent start to the Champions League campaign after they earned a comfortable 3-1 victory over Norwegian side Viking at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s side have turned the tables on a difficult start to the season and picked up their fifth win from six across all competitions and climbed to second in the Champions League standings after three matches.

The Eliteserien visitors pulled off a miraculous 3-3 draw with German champions Bayern Munich last week but they were unable to recreate the same heroics a week later as Villa picked up another win, just one week after thrashing Fenerbahce 6-0.

Ross Barkley nodded Villa in front for his third goal in this season’s competition already before Emi Buendia doubled their advantage from the spot and Henrik Heggheim’s own goal made the result safe.

Villa were top of the table until Peter Christiansen pulled a goal back for Viking in the 84th minute which was reward for their improved second half while denying Villa a third straight clean sheet.

Elsewhere Troy Parrott started and played 79 minutes as Real Betis edged Feyenoord 1-0 thanks to Isco's expertly converted penalty just before the hour mark.

Meanwhile Real Madrid had a more straightforward 4-1 victory over Leipzig after needing three goals in the final 10 minutes of a victory over Roma last week.

It took them 44 minutes to break the deadlock through Bernardo Silva before second half goals from Guler, Mbappe and Diomande ensured they cruised to victory ahead of the Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday.

In France, 19-year-old Soriba Diaoune scored twice for Lille in the first half but it was 2-2 at the break before an own goal and a strike from Osimhen put Galatasaray in control.

It was Galatasaray’s first win of this season’s competition and Lille have now lost all three of its matches.

Finally Inter Milan defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0, Sporting Lisbon lost 3-2 at home to LASK 3-2, Roma demolished Slovan Bratislava 4-0 and Club Brugge defeated Lens 3-0 in Brugge.
