Super Staunton fires Mayo to final
Monaghan had cruised through the group stages with a flawless record from seven games but they came unstuck against the westerners in Ballinamore.
Mayo ran out 1-10 to 0-9 winners against last year’s Division 1 champions, with Staunton hitting all 1-10 for the winners.
Mayo face Cork at Parnell Park on May 11 in the decider, with Galway and Kerry set to do battle in the Division 2 final.
A late free from Edel Concannon sealed a 2-9 to 2-8 victory for Galway in an entertaining semi-final in Banagher yesterday.
Aoibheann Daly and Concannon scored the goals as the Tribeswomen opened up an early 2-3 to 0-1 lead.
But Kildare hit back with goals from Gillian Behan and Maria Moolick and at half-time Galway led 2-3 to 2-2.
On Saturday, Kerry, last year’s beaten All-Ireland senior finalists, had a facile 3-16 to 0-6 victory over Westmeath in Tipperary town, with Mags Fitzgerald, Louise Galvin and Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh raising green flags for Kerry.
Meanwhile, Armagh and Down will contest the Division 3 final after coming through their semi-finals against Tipperary and Longford respectively on Sunday.
