Cork chiefs close to naming administrator
Among those understood to be in contention for the new post are former Cork minor coach Diarmuid O’Donovan, Cork Central Council delegate Des Cullinane, Cork County Board Development Officer Diarmuid Gowen, Edmund Forrest of Rebel Óg and current Cork County Board vice-chairman Ger Lane.
The new administrator will work with incumbent county board secretary Frank Murphy, who has been in office since 1972 and whose primary responsibilities will relate to the refurbishment of Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
According to the new administrator’s job specifications, however, the secretary will also have “overall responsibility for county board operations, including financial, administrative and policy matters . . . (and) Specific responsibility for financial management of the board’s resources including sponsorship.”
The new administrator’s duties will include fixture planning, responsibility for intercounty teams and full-time coaching staff as well as duties such as routine financial matter, affiliations and insurance, grounds maintenance and IT development.
The administrator will be appointed for a three-year term, including a one-year probationary period. With a meeting of the County Board scheduled for next Tuesday, it’s expected the new administrator will be unveiled in Pairc Ui Chaoimh that evening.
