Mayo’s hopes of beating high-flying Dublin in the Allianz Football League on Saturday night have been dealt a big blow with the news that both Alan Dillon and Cillian O’Connor must sit the game out.

The Ballintubber team-mates have been sidelined with injuries for most of the last four months and there are fears the talented duo could miss the next four rounds of this Division 1A campaign.

All-Star Dillon came off the bench late in Mayo’s narrow defeat to Tyrone two weeks ago, but suffered a recurrence of a long-term leg injury afterwards and has not trained since.
