McEnaney: Fewer stoppages will mean less injury time

Referees chief Pat McEnaney has told managers to expect less injury-time as match officials cut down on the amount of needless stoppages in games.

Ahead of the start of the Allianz HL this weekend, the Monaghan man also reiterated his directive to referees that they get red card calls right after not being stern enough on at least eight occasions last season.

After two football rounds, McEnaney is pleased with how referees have responded to his reminder of the rule that play should only be held up if there has been a serious injury. As has been seen in the opening two weekends, several players have gone down with injuries only for the referees to allow the action to continue.
