O’Sullivan has transfer request turned down
O’Sullivan, as well as representatives of the two clubs, appeared before the Cork County Board’s Competitions Control Committee (CCC) on Tuesday night. The CCC had requested the presence of the relevant parties after it had deferred a decision on the matter at its previous meeting last week.
In his application, O’Sullivan had stated that he was now residing at an address on James P O’Regan St in Clonakilty, and provided documentation to that effect. On Tuesday night, this was reiterated by the player and Clonakilty, but challenged by Ballinascarthy, with the committee ultimately opting not to grant the transfer.
Any player having a transfer application rejected can opt to sit out 96 weeks of action and then play for a new club. Having last played hurling in Ballinascarthy in August 2011, O’Sullivan could line out for Clonakilty in the sport in June, but, as his last football match was in April of last year, he could not play club football until February 2014.
If he did choose to do that, he would be ineligible to play for Cork during that period, though he does have the option of appealing his case to the county board’s hearings committee.
