Kerry’s O’Keeffe to take over as CCCC chairman

Kerry’s Tony O’Keeffe has been appointed as successor to Clare’s Simon Moroney as chairman of the powerful Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC).

O’Keeffe, secretary of the Kerry County Board for 18 years, chaired the former inter-county games organisational and disciplinary body, the Games Administration Committee, between 2003 and 2006.

He is currently a member of the CCCC and will chair the group until the end of GAA president Liam O’Neill’s tenure, at Congress 2015.

On Thursday, Moroney confirmed he would be stepping down from the position, having assumed the role of Munster Council secretary on a temporary basis following Pat Fitzgerald’s decision to resign.

It is expected Moroney will take up the job he previously held in 2008 on a permanent basis.

As one of the four provincial secretaries, Moroney will remain on the CCCC while former Tipperary chairman John Costigan will take the Munster position at the table vacated by O’Keeffe.

Meanwhile, the Cork hurling management are still waiting to hear from Eoin Cadogan about his intentions for the 2013 season.

The Douglas man returned from an extended trip to Australia this week and has been selected by Conor Counihan for the footballer’s McGrath Cup quarter-final against Tipperary tomorrow.

Cadogan, 26, has been a dual inter-county player since 2008 and speculation surfaced earlier this week about him not making himself available to both teams this year.

A Cadogan defection would be a serious blow to manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy, having already seen Damien Cahalane commit himself to the footballers for this season.

Aidan Walsh and Ciaran Sheehan have once again also elected to concentrate on football.
