Skelly warns clubs on final behaviour
The Longford man made the request at yesterday’s launch for Sunday’s provincial deciders in Mullingar and Kilkenny.
And he warned there will be “no hiding place” for anyone found guilty of making such derogatory comments.
“Any type of behaviour like what took place in Armagh last Sunday, won’t be tolerated in Leinster.” he said. “There are structures there to deal with it, whether it’s at senior level or underage.
“Whether they’re partisans of the team or whether they’re officials of the club or whether they’re members of the teams themselves, there will be no hiding place if behaviour is not what it should be.
“We’re a famous sporting association and anything that goes outside or crosses the line won’t be tolerated and I would appeal to the four clubs to carry that message forward.”
Skelly also queried the scheduling of the club championships and expressed his wish to see the Leinster senior finals played a month earlier.
He rued the fact both games will clash on Sunday, the football final starting 15 minutes earlier in Cusack Park (1.45pm) than the hurling decider in Nowlan Park (2pm).
Part of the reason for that, at least from a hurling perspective, was Kilkenny’s All-Ireland SHC final replay against Galway followed by the postponement of Oulart-the-Ballagh’s scheduled semi-final with Ballyhale Shamrocks due to a waterlogged Wexford Park pitch.
“We tossed out the idea of playing one on Saturday and one on Sunday but as you know country towns two weeks before Christmas would make it impossible for spectators to get to the venues.”
