GPA chiefs are still in the dark as to what impact the budget may have on the player grant scheme.

GPA seek grant re-assurance

Finance Minister Michael Noonan made no reference to the grants in his Dáil address yesterday.

However, the players’ association are awaiting a meeting with Government officials to discover what the status of the scheme will be and what avenues are available to them.

GPA spokesperson Sean Potts last night revealed: “We have contacted the minister this week and will be discussing the grants with him next week. Our position hasn’t changed, as long as money is being granted to other sports people, and in particular tax relief for pro sports, we will fight for the principle of our scheme.”
