Brosnan braced for Castlehaven challenge
“In those conditions it was a case of whoever was fresh, whoever could use their legs.At that particular time in the final minutes I felt I had a few runs in me,” Brosnan explained.
Now, thoughts turn to another Munster final and a clash with west Cork powerhouse Castlehaven, the fourth provincial decider in seven seasons for Brosnan and his Crokes team-mates.
“Yeah, a Cork/Kerry game again, always something to look forward to. Coming in at half-time it was announced that Castlehaven were five points down against Stradbally in their semi-final but I’m sure the conditions in Clonakilty were as difficult as conditions here.”
Truth be told in fact, even before their own semi-final Brosnan was already thinking ahead.
“We expected to be playing Castlehaven if we were lucky enough to get through ourselves.
“They seem to be a very difficult side to break down, really tough, not conceding much. Seven points today, low scoring in the Cork county final. I was talking to a fella from West Cork who really knows his football and he said they set themselves up like that, a really difficult side to beat.”
Certainly, he reckons, it won’t be anything like last year’s shootout against UCC.
“The scoreline was 3-14 to 2-10, I remember the headline in the Examiner — the writer couldn’t get over it, not a real reflection of what Munster club football is like traditionally. ”But it was a fine day, it was against a college team; this will be a different game.”
