Milford to atone for past defeats
Three years ago the sides met at the same stage with St Catherine’s taking the honours in an entertaining duel at Páirc Uí Rinn.
This time around the venue is Castle Road and is an historic occasion for Cork camogie as it is the first time a senior final will be played at the venue.
Milford have lost three county finals since 2004 but have bolstered their panel considerably in the interim, Cork senior panellist Maria Walsh transferring from Ballyhea and Marie O’Neill transferring from Watergrasshill.
Milford will also be able to rely on the experience of 2011 All-star Anna Geary, Regina Curtin, Cork footballer Deirdre O’Reilly and the Watson sisters, Emer, Áine and Marie.
The side dumped 2011 champions Douglas out of this year’s championship before defeating a gutsy Courcey Rovers in the semi-final.
St Catherine’s route to the final has been somewhat of a whirlwind with a quarter-final and semi-final played in the space of five days. The latter was a nail-biter which saw St Catherine’s advance with just a point to spare over Inniscarra.
Cork senior starlet Orla Cotter will be instrumental for the side that is managed by former Cork senior hurling manager Denis Walsh.
Verdict: Milford
