McHale: We got it wrong

Former Mayo player and selector Liam McHale has slammed his county’s backroom team for some poor decision-making from the sideline in last Sunday’s All-Ireland final loss against Donegal.

McHale: We got it wrong

McHale believes a lack of guile and tactical appreciation by team boss James Horan and his fellow selectors robbed Mayo of a golden opportunity to land their first senior All-Ireland title since 1951.

“I felt Donegal were there for the taking last Sunday,” said McHale, who played for Mayo in the All-Ireland finals of 1989, 1996 and 1997, finishing a loser in each case.
