Castletownbere’s late charge proves decisive

However, when Brian Gallagher netted to give Glanworth a 1-8 to 0-6 shortly after the interval it appeared a semi-final date against Adrigole was theirs for the taking.

But the Castletownbere sideline made some shrewd calls while on the field a number of key men upped their performance levels down the home straight.

With defenders, Lorcan Harrington, (who cleared off his line after just nine minutes), along with Donagh Bán O’Sullivan, Enda Wiseman and Trevor Collins finally on top of their brief and midfielder Andrew O’Sullivan putting in a storming last quarter the tide turned for the seasiders.

The move that led to the crucial 47th minute goal began back in the Castletownbere defence and ended with O’Regan rattling the net at the other end.

His brother Alan had the teams level a minute later and, following an exchange of points, Andrew O’Sullivan converted a 45 to give his side the lead. But at the other end Glanworth’s Michael Pierce was denied a goal by the agility of James Power.

William Blackburn, Seán O’Keeffe, David Pyne, Brian Gallagher and Pierre O’Driscoll led the way for Glanworth in the opening half playing some superb football. Gallagher’s goal looked to have sealed their semi spot but then came Castletownbere’s brave finish.
