Browne would love shot at modern game
The All-Ireland finalist from 23 years ago was heralded as one of the game’s smartest defenders and thinks the way the game is being played now would have suited players like him.
“I’d have absolutely loved it,” he said about playing the Donegal style.
“Getting forward, kicking scores. If I had the chance to play that game 20 years ago, I’d have loved it. I would have loved that type of game, or the way Mayo play like now. I mean, the way Kevin McLoughlin is playing now, is unreal. He reminds me of Pat Spillane for Kerry. People used to wonder where Spillane got the energy and it’s the same with McLoughlin.
“I like the game now and think it’s much quicker. I would have loved to have gone forward.
“Donegal are a great team to come forward. They come at you in fours and fives and isolate the man and sure what can you do, you have to try and stop it somewhere.
“I’d say stop them and foul them when they get the ball and don’t let them get the advantage of running at you.”
