Cadogan back in fold as Rebels ring changes

Eoin Cadogan has been restored to the Cork hurlers’ starting line-up for Saturday’s All-Ireland phase three qualifier against Wexford.

Cadogan back in fold as Rebels ring changes

The dual player won his first Munster senior medal in either code with Cork footballers on Sunday after opting for them ahead of the hurlers who beat Offaly the previous evening.

He comes in at the expense of William Egan while Damien Cahalane makes his senior Championship debut at full-back having been drafted in for Conor O’Sullivan.

Cadogan and Cahalane are two of four changes to the team that beat Offaly with Niall McCarthy making a welcome return to the half-forward line and Luke O’Farrell taking the place of Jamie Coughlan at corner-forward.

To accommodate McCarthy, Pa Cronin shifts from the 40 to midfield where he takes over from Darren Sweetnam.

Wexford boss Liam Dunne goes with 12 of the 15 that beat Carlow last day. At least one of his changes is enforced with PJ Nolan breaking his hand against Carlow.

Starlet Jack Guiney comes in for him while Paul Roche replaces Eoin Moore in defence and Stephen Banville is chosen over Harry Kehoe. Gary Moore is out with a hand injury picked up in a club game last week.

Kerry have made three changes from the team that lost to Cork for Sunday’s round two qualifier against Westmeath in Mullingar.

Fit-again Donnchadh Walsh takes injured Darran O’Sullivan’s half-forward berth, Brian Maguire slots into the half-back line instead of Peter Crowley and James O’Donoghue, who impressed in the second-half against Cork, replaces Kieran O’Leary.

As expected, Colm Cooper is named at full-forward with O’Donoghue and Kieran Donaghy flanking him.

Having been named in his customary right half-back spot, Tomás Ó Sé is set to make his 80th Championship appearance — just one behind his brother and all-time SFC appearance record holder Darragh.

Mayo and Sligo have made just one change each for Sunday’s Connacht final.

Enda Varley is favoured over Alan Freeman from the win over Leitrim while Tony Taylor is named in Sligo’s midfield where Eugene Mallen had played against Galway last day out.

Seánie Johnston is back on track to make his Kildare debut against his native Cavan in Sunday’s qualifier.

After picking up a shoulder injury last week, the 27-year-old was back in the fold on Tuesday night and performed strongly, meaning that he will be available to play some part at least against the side he captained last year before being dropped from the panel.

Kieran McGeeney has named 13 of the team that lost to Meath for Sunday with Ollie Lyons and Padraig O’Neill making way for Aindriu MacLochlainn and Rob Kelly.

Eamonn Callaghan was reduced to a very short cameo last Sunday week, having undergone groin surgery just four weeks earlier and should be able to play a greater role on this occasion.
