Officials deny Cork outfit a shot at final
The Leeside outfit had booked a semi-final berth against Galway side Davitts, after three of the four teams in their group finished on equal points.
After the round-robin section, Aghabullogue were tied on four points with Balinteer St John’s and Wexford club Crannford-Monaseed.
The rules of the competition stated that a play-off was required and after play-offs, frees and sudden death, Aghabullogue eventually qualified for the last four at 5.30pm, just an hour-and-a-half before the scheduled semi-final.
Immediately Aghabullogue officials put in a request to the Féile committee to have their semi-final postponed until Saturday morning.
This request was turned down and Davitts were awarded a place in this afternoon’s final at 1pm in Croke Park.
Elsewhere, Clarinbridge and St Brigid’s, Dublin will contest the Division 1 hurling decider.
A second-half goal from Cian Salmon helped the Galway outfit to a 1-11 to 0-5 win over Sarsfields, Cork at Mobhi Road.
A fortnight after winning the Division 1 All-Ireland Féile Peil na nÓg, St Brigid’s, Dublin are again back in an All-Ireland decider.
The Navan Road outfit claimed a 1-7 to 1-3 win over Patrickswell of Limerick.
