Champions Monaleen needed four late frees from Muris Gavin to share the spoils with Ballysteen (2-11 apiece) in the second round of the Limerick senior football championship.

Paul Kinnerk and Eoin Keating goaled in the opening half to help Monaleen to a 2-6 to 1-7 interval lead. However, Shane Hallinan netted for Ballysteen and just after the restart Danny Neville added a second goal to put them in the driving seat until Gavin’s heroics.

Former champions Dromcollogher-Broadford kick-started their campaign with a 1-10 to 0-7 win over Ballylanders in Kilmallock.
