Late Gavin points earn Monaleen draw with Ballysteen
Paul Kinnerk and Eoin Keating goaled in the opening half to help Monaleen to a 2-6 to 1-7 interval lead. However, Shane Hallinan netted for Ballysteen and just after the restart Danny Neville added a second goal to put them in the driving seat until Gavin’s heroics.
Former champions Dromcollogher-Broadford kick-started their campaign with a 1-10 to 0-7 win over Ballylanders in Kilmallock.
Micheal Brosnan goaled in the sixth minute to help them to a 1-4 to 0-3 half-time lead with Derry McCarthy landing two points from play. Brosnan added three second half points as they carved out a six point win.
St Kieran’s were 3-12 to 1-4 winners over Mountcollins. and had inter-county panellists Jim O’Donovan and Darragh Treacy among their goalscorers as they eased past the intermediate champions.
Fr Casey’s also enjoyed a big win defeating Galbally 3-12 to 0-6.
Limerick defender John Riordan got the Abbeyfeale men off to a flying start with a goal as they enjoyed a 1-8 to 0-1 half-time lead.
In the final quarter, Fr Casey’s sealed the win with further goals from John Lenihan and Derry O’Connor.
Galbally had to wait until the final minutes for Tom Harty to get their first score from play.
Adare defeated St Patrick’s 1-13 to 0-10.
St Patrick’s played with the wind in the first half but the sides were level 0-6 each at the break, with Willie Griffin and Peter Lavin among the scorers for Adare and John Mullane and Pa Mullins finding the target for the city side.
A Shane Costello goal put Adare in the driving seat in the second half along with Griffin frees while St Patrick’s crashed a penalty wide late in the game.
Newcastle West were 1-5 to 0-7 winners over St Senan’s. A Darragh Woods goal had them 1-3 to 0-4 ahead at half-time.
In terrible conditions, scores were at a premium with Ian Ryan and Mike and Thomas Quilligan accounting for the majority of the scores.
