Dwyer fires Ballymartle to the top
The 2010 county premier intermediate hurling champions made it three wins and a draw from four games with a 0-23 to 1-15 win, Barry Dwyer scoring 14 points (including nine frees and a 65), while Darren McCarthy got three and Seán O’Mahony registered two.
In the other game played on Saturday, Eoghan Murphy and Mossie Carroll each scored two goals as Erin’s Own recorded an amazing 8-9 to 0-12 victory over Courcey Rovers, with Alan Bowen, Colm Coakley, Andrew Power and Diarmuid O’Flynn also raising green flags.
On Thursday, Odhrán Mulrooney was among the goals as Douglas beat Bride Rovers by 2-10 to 0-10, while Jonathan Crowley got a hat-trick in St Finbarr’s 4-10 to 1-8 victory over county champions Carrigtwohill, Ian Lordan getting 1-6.
The Barrs, Bishopstown and Sarsfields are all now on six points, just one behind the joint leaders.
Kilworth have joined Newcestown at the summit of Division 1 of the Intermediate Hurling League after they made it three wins from three by beating Blarney, while Mallow’s midweek win over Barryroe leaves them clear at the top of Division 3.
Douglas have moved to within a point of the top of Division 1 of the county football league after they had a point to spare over neighbours Nemo Rangers on Saturday, triumphing by 0-13 to 1-9. Mark Harrington scored seven points in the win, while Kevin Murphy and Cormac Dineen also played very well.
On Sunday, Bishopstown joined St Finbarr’s on seven points in first place as they beat O’Donovan Rossa by 2-7 to 0-11, David Hickey (penalty) and Denis Crowley scoring the goals.
Elsewhere, Johnny Murphy scored 1-1 and John Hayes weighed in with six points as Carbery Rangers recovered from a 1-3 to 0-4 half-time deficit to overcome fellow Carbery side by 1-11 to 1-6, while in the other west Cork derby Castlehaven beat Newcestown by 0-10 to 0-8.
Clonakilty are a point clear in Division 2 following a one-point win over Naomh Abán, with Éire Óg’s Division 3 draw with Mallow moving them to seven points, also a point ahead of the chasing pack.
Canovee’s win over Youghal keeps them top of Division 4.
