Exile Sheridan expecting GAA exodus to continue
The 27-year-old Senchalstown clubman made the tough decision to leave home last month and has settled in quickly to life in the United States.
Sheridan was with his new club, Wolfe Tones, in Gaelic Park in the Bronx on Sunday where he helped his team to a dominating victory in the annual Cavan Seven-A-Side Tournament.
“It depends how things go back home,” Sheridan told the Irish Examiner when asked if he expected more high-profile players to leave Ireland.
“There probably will be more. The amount of people going to Australia... I’m not the only one leaving. (Wolfe Tones team mate) Cormac Joyce-Power played for Limerick against us in Portlaoise. He’s been here a year now.
“It probably will be a trend that keeps going. I’d like to hope I can get back home as quick as possible but for the foreseeable future, I don’t think that’s possible.”
Sheridan has settled into an apartment in Dorchester, South Boston and has found electrical work.
“It’s been pretty easy to be honest, all the lads have been very welcoming. I knew a couple of them coming out here so that helped a lot. I took the first week off to get settled in and get myself sorted out.
“But I’m working away now which is great. We’ll see how it goes. It’s a good opportunity to get out here and try and do something with my life. Back home, it’s a bit of a disaster, with the way things are going. It was a tough decision to come out here but I’m delighted I did it.
“All the lads are great.”
