McGrath facing tough time playing the selection game with Waterford

Ken McGrath may make a very good inter-county selector one of these days.

He knows the game, he’s humble and he has a lovely way about him.

But jumping back into the pool with Waterford in his first season post-retirement is an exercise fraught with pitfalls, chief among them the necessity of dealing with, on an entirely different level, players he’s hurled with for years. Come the revolution, every recently retired big-name player will be required to undergo a three-year learning course with club teams at home and in neighbouring counties. Broadening their horizons, increasing their knowledge, making mistakes. Only then will they be allowed join an inter-county management team. You know it makes sense.
