Tipp boss angry at ref O’Shea

Tipperary boss John Evans believes rookie referee Brian O’Shea was out of his depth in Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division 3 clash against Wexford.

Dublin whistler O’Shea issued 15 yellow cards and three reds during the course of the Wexford Park clash, which the home side won by 2-20 to 1-8.

Evans had no complaints with the result of the game but was unhappy with O’Shea’s performance.

And Evans reflected: “I don’t think he (O’Shea) would have survived if that was a Division 1 game. I don’t think the game would have finished.

“The Wexford and Tipp camps couldn’t see what was going or what he was doing. It was very frustrating.

“The media covered it themselves and I’m not going to add to it other than it was frightening what he was doing.

“But I won’t add to it, particularly when you’re the losing manager, you don’t want to comment on a referee. But I think there were five people there from the media and every single one of them pointed out the same thing that it certainly wasn’t a good advert for the game, the way he handled it. It left everybody, including Wexford people, scratching their heads as to what he was at.”

Evans, meanwhile, has described the 15-point thumping as his lowest point since taking charge of Tipperary in late 2007.

And he admitted that if pointless Tipp lose to Cavan at Semple Stadium next Sunday, their “goose is cooked” in Division 3.

The Kerry native said: “Sunday was the lowest day I’ve had in Tipperary. But hopefully we’ve seen the lowest day and we can rise from that. And the players felt it. Not only were they angry with what happened but they were angry with themselves. I wasn’t going to compound it by being angry with them. We’ll try to work our way out of this but if we don’t win against Cavan, our goose is cooked. We’ve got to rise to it.”
