Shanahan passes away
The Toomevara man, who also played senior hurling for Dublin, was on the Premier County team that did the three-in-row between 1949 and ’51.
A minor in 1946, midfielder Shanahan went onto win four National League medals with Tipperary — 1949, ‘50, ‘52 and ‘57- as well as a quartet of Railway Cups — 1950 to ‘53.
He capped his hurling career with a county medal with the north Tipperary club in 1960.
Shanahan also had an involvement with the Portlaoise club and Laois GAA as well as Killenaule in the 1980s.
The Tipperary County Board yesterday extended its sympathies to his wife Joan and his sons, Philip, Brian and David and all his family and friends.
The funeral removal will take place at 7.30 this evening from O’Donoghue’s Funeral Home, Kickham Street, Clonmel, to Ss Peter & Paul’s Church this evening.
There will be requiem mass at 1pm tomorrow.
