Council calls for Thurles All-Ireland semi-final

SEMPLE STADIUM may host one of this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling semi-finals if Thurles Town Council is successful in a plea to the GAA as part of the town’s celebrations at being the European Town of Sport for 2012.

The council will write to Croke Park to ask for Semple Stadium to be chosen as the venue and also to ensure this year’s Munster senior hurling final is played there.

It is unlikely GAA national fixture-makers will be keen to move the All-Ireland semi-final clash away from headquarters at Croke Park while the attempt to have the provincial showdown played in Semple Stadium, will be dependent on what counties are involved.
