Gilroy offers opportunity to Dubs hopefuls

PAT GILROY will unveil several new playing candidates as he plans to be without at least 15 of his All-Ireland-winning panel for January.

The Dubs had 32 players in their squad when they defeated Kerry in last September’s All-Ireland final — but Gilroy confirmed that 15 of that squad will be tied up in college commitments for the O’Byrne Cup.

Dublin will play away against Carlow in the first round of the O’Byrne Cup on Sunday week and will also be without Denis Bastick (honeymoon) while Eamon Fennell and Bernard Brogan are on extended holidays and due back shortly.
