Shefflin ‘fine’ to play for Shamrocks after scare

BALLYHALE Shamrocks officials have assuaged fears that star forward Henry Shefflin suffered a recurrence of his cruciate ligament injury in Sunday’s drawn county final against James Stephens.

Shefflin has overcome two cruciate ligament injuries in recent years and after 46 minutes of play last Sunday he went down injured and appeared to limp afterwards, though he recovered to hit over a dramatic equalising point from a late free. Yesterday, however, Ballyhale chairman Sean Reid confirmed that the ten-time All-Star will be fit for Sunday’s replay.

“Henry just got a tip,” said Reid.

“He got a knock on the shoulder against O’Loughlin Gaels in the semi-final and that came against him a bit again on Sunday, but he was okay.

“He was still able to hit two fine frees after getting injured. He’ll be fine to play again this weekend.”
