Penalty proves Latton’s winner

LATTON were crowned Monaghan champions for the third time in six years after a disappointing SFC final in Inniskeen yesterday.

Penalty proves Latton’s winner

Played in difficult weather conditions, this was not a contest for the purist with too many mistakes, turn overs and players simply taking the wrong option.

Scotstown bidding for a first title since 1993 looked set to end their famine when they led by two points midway through the second-half. However, a goal from a penalty converted by Hugh McElroy with 12 minutes remaining had Latton ahead for the first time since the opening minute.

The sides were level on two further occasions in the closing minutes with Scotstown playing catch up, before Owen Duffy clinched victory with a point two minutes into stoppage time.
