Brosnan relieved as Ryan set to stay on
Ryan had been linked with the vacant Waterford hurling post but is set to continue with the Leinster outfit for the 2012 season.
The next campaign will be Ryan’s fifth in the south east.
Brosnan – in Dublin yesterday to accept the player of the month award for May – described it as “great news” and said Ryan’s decision was reallycrucial to the future of the game in Wexford.
“If he didn’t stay it could have taken us two years back,” said Brosnan who also received a nod from the All Star nomination meeting.
“We would be looking for a manager and, who knows, he might not have got on as well with the players as Jason has.
“He knows every player. It is a big boost for Wexford football that Jason is staying.
“There are the U21s coming up as well from last year’s Leinster title team so football in Wexford will be very good, hopefully.”
Brosnan’s relief is all the more acute given the suggestions that aroseclaiming Ryan’s name was in the frame for the Waterford hurling post that had been recently vacated by DavyFitzgerald.
What made it all the more alarming was, first of all, the knowledge that Ryan is a native of Waterford and, secondly, the depth to the rumour which was so far advanced that former Kilkenny goalkeeper James McGarry was being touted as part of the management ticket in the form of team trainer.
“I think he could take up the hurling as well,” said Brosnan.
“His management and preparation before matches – I have never witnessed anything like it before in any manager I have seen.
“His attention to detail is unbelievable.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he had taken that job.
“I am just thankful that he is staying with us now.”
