Mulholland becomes Tribe boss

ALAN MULHOLLAND last night became Galway’s fourth senior football manager in as many years when he was confirmed as the new boss of the Tribesmen.

Mulholland becomes Tribe boss

The Salthill/Knocknacarra clubman, who guided Galway to the All-Ireland U21 crown this year, has been given a three-year term.

Galway officials are hoping that his appointment will restore some stability after the previous two managers — Joe Kernan and Tomás Ó Flatharta — lasted just a season, while prior to that Liam Sammon’s three-year term lasted just two campaigns.

Mulholland, who also led Galway to an All-Ireland minor crown in 2007, will be joined by his U21selectors, Tuam Stars manager Alan Flynn and Donal Ó Flatharta from An Spideal.

Mulholland was the only candidate interviewed for the job after Sligo manager Kevin Walsh, former Offaly boss Gerry Fahy and former Galway midfielder and manager Billy Joyce all withdrew after being nominated.
