’Bridge hat-trick

CELBRIDGE completed three Kildare SHC titles in a row when they had seven points to spare (2-16 to 0-15) against Confey in Newbridge.

’Bridge hat-trick

The Bridge, with former Dublin keeper Damien Byrne in charge, scored two goals within the first ten minutes. A fine solo effort from Mark Moloney got them off to the ideal start but when Conor Kenny drove home a second goal they were flying. Despite that setback, Confey came roaring back thanks to Paul Divilly’s frees and trailed by just one point, 2-5 to 0-10, at half-time.

Celbridge enjoyed another good burst of points to move four clear but the game hung in the balance

Kenny and minor Gerry Keegan struck over some sublime scores as Celbridge took home the Sean Carey Cup for the fourth time in seven years.

Meanwhile Maynooth took home the Kildare intermediate title in the curtain raiser thanks to a goal from Graham Kenny and the imperious Mark Cummins from placed balls, who landed 0-10.

Sarsfields made a late bid for victory when Frank Maguire found the net but their efforts were in vain as they lost out by 1-16 to 1-13.

It was a famous day for St Laurence’s in the Kildare junior final as they claimed their first ever adult hurling crown, beating Clane by 0-15 to 1-7 with star man Sean Murphy finishing with 0-11. The Kildare JFC final between Two Mile House and Robertstown was postponed on Saturday because of heavy rain.
