Galvin misses out for Kerry
Eoin Brosnan, whose spot was thought to be in jeopardy before the Mayo game, is deemed fit to start despite rolling an ankle in training last Friday. However, it’s the decision by O’Connor not to drop Walsh in favour of Galvin that is the biggest talking point of the Kerry outfit.
The 2009 footballer of the year Galvin was impressive when coming on for a below-par Walsh as an early second-half substitute against Mayo.
Galvin, who has been struggling with hamstring problems this year, started the previous game against Limerick but was replaced by Kieran O’Leary for the win over Mayo.
It means Kerry go with just seven of the team that won the 2009 All-Ireland final over Cork, although three of the substitutes that day — Walsh, Kieran Donaghy and Aidan O’Mahony — are set to start Sunday.
Eight of the team that thrashed Dublin by 17 points in that year’s quarter-final will be in the parade on Sunday. O’Connor last night named a panel of 31 but will have to whittle it down to a match-day number of 26.
At the moment, Seamus Scanlon, who has been battling with a neck injury, is named on the bench.
