Hartley tipped for Déise job

FERGAL HARTLEY appears to be the front-runner for the vacant Waterford job despite suggestions former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy is in the running.

Ballygunner man Hartley, who managed the Waterford U21s this year, is favoured by a number of board officials and could be in line to replace Davy Fitzgerald with his current selectors Tom Feeney and Derek McGrath.

Sheedy’s name has been mentioned in dispatches but Hartley is regarded as more of realistic contender.

Michael Ryan and Hartley’s teammate Stephen Frampton are also regarded as contenders while one of Fitzgerald’s selectors, Paraic Fanning, might also put his hat in the ring. As mentioned in the press release regarding Fitzgerald’s departure, the process of appointing the new manager will be discussed at this Monday’s county board meeting.
