Westmeath want boss to outline 2012 plans
There have been reports of discontent amongst some members of the Westmeath panel after the team failed to win a championship game for the first time since 1997, even though they had gained promotion form Division Three of the Allianz League.
The situation was discussed at a meeting of the county executive last night and it was decided that Flanagan would have to give the committee a clear outline of how he plans to improve matters.
While there is clear pressure on Flanagan, it is considered unlikely that he will be axed when a final decision on his position is made in two weeks’ time.
The former Tyrellspass and Clara boss came into the job as a caretaker manager last year after a player heave led to Brendan Hackett’s resignation.
He oversaw the defeat of Wicklow in the Leinster championship before being given the role on a permanent basis for this season.
After topping Division Three, the Lakesiders then lost the league final to Louth before falling to Wexford in Leinster and Antrim in the qualifiers. However, Flanagan is keen to continue in the role.
