O’Gorman strikes late for Taghmon
O’Gorman, who had kicked two points from his centre-back role, switched to midfield for the closing 20 minutes, and landed the game’s decisive score.
A 10th minute goal from Paul Kinsella had helped St. Mary’s to a 1-4 to 0-5 interval lead. Taghmon-Camross, through the scoring power of O’Gorman and forward Lloyd Colfer, edged into a 0-12 to 1-7 lead midway through the second half before Tiernan Rossiter blazed a St. Mary’s penalty wide on 49 minutes.
Two minutes later, St. Mary’s regained the lead after an Emmett Byrne goal, but it was Taghmon-Camross who claimed the spoils.
St. Anne’s (Rathangan), inspired by a 45th minute goal from wing-back Gary Cloney, strolled to a comfortable 1-16 to 1-8 victory over Fethard.
St. Anne’s, through the fine point taking of Liam Óg McGovern, Jonathan Fogarty and Redmond Barry led 0-10 to 1-3 at the interval with a 16th minute goal from Graham O’Grady keeping Fethard in touch. But despite the fine point taking of Darren Foley, Fethard never raised a serious second-half challenge, with Cloney’s goal giving St. Anne’s both points.
Castletown convincingly saw off the challenge of Adamstown (0-15 to 0-6) at Monamolin.
County man Anthony Masterson was in superb form as the champions continued their bid to retain the title.
Masterson kicked six points and along with four points from James Holmes, they proved far too good for Adamstown who had to rely on five points from Eric Bradley.
Veteran Matty Forde showed his scoring touch has not deserted him as he kicked 1-3 in Kilanerin’s 1-6 to 1-4 victory over Duffry Rovers.
